- Denys Umanskyi, a scout, was killed on August 9, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission in the area of the village of Vodiane in the Donetsk region. The warrior's life was cut short by enemy artillery fire. He was 25 years old. Denys was born in the city of Dobropillia, Donetsk region. He graduated from the Bilytske Vocational School. He then decided to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a contract basis. He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation in Donbas. After the end of his contract, he went to work in Poland. When the full-scale war began, the man returned to his homeland to defend it from the occupiers. He served in the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh. He took part in battles for the Kherson and Donetsk regions, in particular, he fought near Bakhmut, Vuhledar, and Donetsk. In May 2023, he got married. He had many plans for life that did not come to fruition. His comrades-in-arms describe Denys as a "kind, sensitive, cheerful person who always enjoyed the respect of his comrades." He was always in a fighting spirit and feared nothing. His wife Kateryna wrote that the "cheerful, always smiling guy lost his life, his heart stopped beating. The only son, beloved husband and reliable friend - a heavy loss for all his loved ones and acquaintances... And for the mother - the eternal pain of loss and tears." Denys' mother, Olena Umanska, said that her son "lived 1 day for a year. He was interested in computers, wanted to be a programmer since childhood, wrote programs. He was kind, honest, and straightforward. He feared nothing and no one. He loved his Ukraine. When he decided to go to war at the beginning of the war, I offered to volunteer, and he replied: 'How can I be in Poland when my guys from Kharkiv, Zhytomyr are fighting? What will I tell my children?'" The defender was buried in his hometown. He is survived by his mother, wife, other relatives, friends, and comrades-in-arms.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
