- Soldier Eduard Stavytskyi died on April 12, 2022, while defending the city of Mariupol from Russian occupiers. During the performance of a combat mission in the area of the bridge over the Kalmius River, he came under enemy fire, resulting in fatal injuries. The defender was 18 years old. Eduard was born in the village of Kalanchak, Kherson region. He graduated from the Kalanchak secondary school of grades I-III. For some time he worked at a car service station in Kharkiv. He planned to study further, but decided to go into military service. He was interested in cars. He liked to walk with friends, entertained his younger sister, and supported his parents. In June 2021, as soon as the young man turned 18, he joined the ranks of the special purpose unit "Azov". He moved to Mariupol, where he served. He held the position of a rifleman in the patrol platoon of the rifle battalion. From February 24, 2022, Eduard, together with his comrades-in-arms, bravely defended Mariupol and the Azovstal plant from Russian occupiers. Despite his young age, he never refused difficult tasks and boldly went into battle. "My son was 18 years old when he took up the defense of Ukraine. He loved his little sister very much, picked her up from kindergarten, walked with her, and tried to create a fairy-tale childhood for her. When he called me the last time (I never say the last), I asked him to surrender, to which he said to me: 'Mom, I took the oath to Ukraine!'" - Oksana Stavytska said. The young hero was buried in the Alley of Glory of cemetery No. 18 in Kharkiv. Eduard is survived by his mother and sister.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
