Kateryna O. Rohovyk (Katrin)

Soldier Kateryna Rohovyk (call sign Katrin) was killed on May 8, 2022 in Mariupol, Donetsk region. She was in a bunker that was hit by an air strike. She was forever 28 years old. Kateryna was born in Mariupol. She graduated from school No. 37 there. She obtained a higher education as an economist at the branch of the Kyiv Academy of International Economics and International Relations. She owned a grocery store and a cafe next to a military unit. On December 16, 2021, she signed a contract for service in the National Guard of Ukraine. She held the position of logistics officer. "Katya was supposed to be transferred to the position of head of the food base in February. She was interning for a month. February 20 was her birthday. They were given three days off. She came home. But the next day everyone was gathered at the base. The war began. And I never saw her again. We talked on the phone or corresponded. Katyusha was on the territory of Azovstal together with her comrades-in-arms. I asked her: 'Daughter, come out as a civilian, we will pick you up.' And she replied: 'Mom, I'm doing well. I can't do that. Around me are such good and strong guys. I'm proud to be with them.' On May 7 at 19:57 she wrote: 'Mom, I'm leaving by car tomorrow.' She was supposed to be evacuated under the guise of a civilian. And on May 8, around 3:00 PM, the bunker was hit by an air strike. Her comrades-in-arms and then the patronage service informed me. We still have not received the body," said mother Iryna Rohovyk. "I never thought that in my old age I would be left without her. Katyusha was our long-awaited child. She dreamed of living and working. From school, she wrote poems. She loved to read history books. At the age of 19, she started her own business. Her cafe was very popular with the military. Katyusha had a beloved boyfriend, with whom she lived for 7 years. He is a great support for me now. Although, of course, no one can replace my daughter." At home, Kateryna was awaited by her parents and her beloved. Posthumously, the defender was awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
