- 49-year-old Captain Maksym Serbuk (call sign Volya) was killed in action on July 13, 2022, near the village of Dementiivka in Kharkiv region. While performing a combat mission, he and his comrades came under enemy mortar fire. For several hours, the wounded officer called for evacuation for himself and his comrades, but due to the dense shelling by the enemy, his comrades were only able to take their bodies away. Maksym was born and lived in Kyiv. He graduated from the Kyiv Higher Military Naval Political School. He served in the ranks of the Security Service of Ukraine. However, he later decided to engage in business and opened his own company. In his free time, he was engaged in boxing and cycling. With the start of the full-scale invasion, the officer unhesitatingly stood up to defend his native capital from the enemy. He joined the ranks of the 242nd separate battalion of territorial defense of the 241st brigade of the TRO of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of deputy commander of the battalion for moral and psychological support. After the liberation of Kyiv region, as part of his unit, he went to Kharkiv region. "Dad was for us with my younger brother the only person we could rely on. In everything. Sometimes he was strict, but always with a great sense of empathy. He knew how to listen, sympathize, and advise. He always wanted to be an example for us. An example in attitude towards women (love for mom I observed and enjoyed all my life), an example in raising children - he always taught that in any situation it is important to remain human and act according to conscience. Humanity and deep sense of empathy - this is what we have from dad. Dad always took care that we lived in safety and prosperity. Always tried to protect his family from any experiences. That's why we didn't even know he was going to the front. Having sent us to a safe place, he went to defend his family and the country where he was born and loved with all his heart. This evokes pride and respect. But now we have pain for the rest of our lives. Such a dad can be wished to everyone. Being such a person can be wished to everyone. Such a man can be wished to every woman. The memory of our Hero will live forever," said Mariia Hrybynchuk. The Hero was buried at the Sovskyi cemetery in the capital. Maksym left behind his wife, daughter, son, and other relatives. Posthumously, Captain Maksym Serbuk was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
