In 2006, he graduated from the 9th grade of general education school No. 25 in Lutsk, and in 2009, he graduated from the Volyn Technical School (now a college) of the National University of Food Technologies (Lutsk). Since 2010, he served under contract in the 80th Separate Airborne Brigade of the High Mobility Airborne Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0284, Lviv). In 2011, he participated in international military exercises in Germany. Since April 2014, he took part in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On August 26, 2014, Sergeant Shulha sustained multiple shrapnel wounds while covering a comrade during shelling by Russian-terrorist groups of Ukrainian military positions near the urban-type settlement of Novosvitlivka in the Krasnodon (now Sorokyne) district of Luhansk region. After first aid was provided, it was decided to evacuate the wounded by armored personnel carrier to the International Airport "Luhansk." On the way to the airport, the armored personnel carrier came under tank fire. The driver maneuvered and drove off the road into the forest, but there the combat vehicle broke down and stopped. Due to intense shelling, reinforcements could not reach the boys. Not waiting for help, Maxim Shulha died from his injuries. On August 30, 2014, he was buried at the Alley of Honorary Burials in the Lutsk City Cemetery in the village of Harazhdzha, Lutsk district, Volyn region.
