- The life of Junior Sergeant Maksym Savchenko (call sign Savage) was cut short on May 4, 2023, in the Donetsk region. He was killed while carrying out a combat mission in the city of Marinka as a result of an explosion. He would have turned 31 years old the following month. Maksym was from the city of Nizhyn in the Chernihiv region. He graduated from secondary school No. 13. In 2010, he enrolled in the Nizhyn Vocational Agricultural Lyceum, where he obtained the qualifications of a tractor-machine operator in agricultural production and a vehicle driver. He initially worked at a bakery in Kyiv, then at a gas station in the capital. Later, he was involved in the construction of mobile communication towers in a private company. In 2021, he obtained a category for driving heavy vehicles. He planned to work as a long-distance truck driver. He adored animals, especially cats, and loved children very much. He had big plans for his life, but did not have the chance to realize them. After receiving the summons, he went to defend Ukraine. He served in the 79th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a second-category sniper. "Maksym was a man with a capital letter - kind, sensitive, persistent. He had many friends and always helped everyone who turned to him," said his brother Serhii Savchenko. The defender was buried on the Alley of Heroes in Nizhyn. Maksym is survived by his mother Polina Mykhailivna, father Vitalii Volodymyrovych, and brother Serhii. For his service, the soldier was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit and the Order of Courage, Third Degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
