Oleh D. Haichev (Leshyi)

Soldier Oleg Gaychev (call sign Leshiy) died on June 11, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the village of Pisky in the Donetsk region. The defender was 23 years old forever. A month before his death, he got married. Oleg was born in Kherson. He graduated from 9 grades of school in the village of Blahodativka. He enrolled in the Kherson Vocational Lyceum, but decided to leave his studies and went to do military service. In civilian life, he worked as a general laborer at various enterprises. He was fond of knives and loved fishing. After completing his military service, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the time of the full-scale war, Oleg served in the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. He held the position of a grenadier. "We were together for 5 years and loved each other very much. Oleg was very courageous, cheerful and positive, the soul of the company. He loved life very much and dreamed of a little son. He had many friends and reliable comrades. At the age of 19, he went to the army. After completing his military service, he signed a 3-year contract. The contract expired on December 3, 2021. We were going to move from Mykolaiv to another city, for which we had very big plans, but a week before the move, the war began. Oleg served for some time in Mykolaiv, where we got married on May 12, 2022. His entire platoon came to congratulate us. It was the best and last day when we saw each other. In the evening, Oleg went to the Donetsk region. His comrades-in-arms told how he saved the lives of many guys, and said that he had a guardian angel. The communication on the positions of the guys began to disappear, and Oleg decided to gather everyone in the shelter, even though there was no alarm. After everyone went in, heavy shelling of the positions began. This happened more than once. This may have been a coincidence, but his decision saved many lives then. The comrades from the front line said that he behaved bravely and repeatedly helped the wounded. Oleg died on June 11, 2022, while performing a combat mission at the front line. The next day, a month after the wedding, I was informed that he was no more. Oleg once told me: "I don't want to see my little brother and sister crying in fear, so I'm going to protect you." He has no children of his own, but we very much wanted and planned... My beloved, if you knew how much I, your mother and all your relatives and friends miss you... You will forever remain in my heart, my one and only love! Rest in peace, my Hero," shared the memories of the deceased by his wife Karyna. The warrior was buried in the village of Matviyivka, Mykolaiv region. Oleg is survived by his wife, mother, brother, sister, relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
