Oleksandr S. Somik (Som)

Marine Alexander Somik (call sign Som) died on November 19, 2023 in the area of the village of Krynky in the Kherson region. While performing a combat mission, he received fatal injuries as a result of enemy artillery shelling. The warrior was 35 years old. Alexander was from the village of Ustia, Vinnytsia region. He graduated from 9 grades of Ustianska school. Then he went to work at a local enterprise, where he was the youngest employee. In 2006, he was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After demobilization, he returned to the enterprise. Later, he tried himself in various fields of activity and changed many jobs. Before the invasion, he worked as a driver. He was married. Together with his wife, he raised daughters. He was fond of fishing. He loved dogs. When the full-scale war began, the man was abroad, but decided to return to his homeland. In August 2023, he was mobilized into the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 35th separate brigade of the marine corps named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyy. He held the position of a rifleman-medic in the assault squad of the assault platoon of the assault company of the 18th separate battalion. "Alexander would still have to live and live, raise his girls, support his parents and rejoice in life. But life has ended... Som will forever remain in our hearts as a positive person. When Sasha walked down the street, he could be heard. He greeted everyone in a special, cheerful way. He would stop and ask how things were going. He made decisions slowly, but always thoughtfully. He had a big and kind heart and a sincere smile, many friends. And Sasha also loved dogs very much. So for his wife Anna's birthday, he gave her a large bouquet of flowers and a small puppy." The defender was buried in his native village. Alexander is survived by his parents Serhii Anatoliiovych and Mariia Mykolaivna, his wife Hanna, daughters Snizhana and Anastasiia, relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
