Oleksandr began military service in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in 1997 in Cherkasy, later continuing it in Mykolaiv. That day, around 10:00, soldiers of the National Guard, who were on duty at a checkpoint near the village of Lysychne, 8 km from the Ukrainian-Russian border, noticed a column of two armored personnel carriers and trucks "KAMAZ," "Ural," and "Gazelle" moving from the territory of the Russian Federation. Some of the attackers wore green ribbons with the inscription "Chechnya" on their headgear.
