Oleksii O. Khomov

Senior soldier Oleksiy Khomov (call sign Khoma) died on July 6, 2024 at the I. Mechnikov Dnipropetrovsk Regional Clinical Hospital. On June 20, during the performance of a combat mission near the village of Klishchiyivka in the Donetsk region, the defender received a mine-explosive injury - an enemy UAV dropped explosives on the position. For more than two weeks, the doctors fought for Oleksiy's life: he underwent several operations, but his body could not withstand it. Now the warrior is forever 42 years old. Oleksiy was from the city of Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He was passionate about music, studied at music school No. 1 - he played the accordion wonderfully. In 2015, he obtained a full higher education at the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine in the specialty "Quality, Standardization and Certification", and also became a management specialist. For more than 10 years he worked as a repair mechanic at the Interpipe Niko Tube enterprise. He proved himself to be a responsible and honest person who was always ready to help. He had authority among his colleagues. He loved his family very much and was an exemplary father for his children. Oleksiy first took up the defense of Ukraine in 2014, during the ATO in the East. For his service, he was awarded the President of Ukraine's award "For Participation in the ATO" and the badge "For Exemplary Service". So when the Russian invaders launched a full-scale invasion, he joined the ranks of the defenders again. He fought as part of the mortar squad of the mortar platoon of the fire support company of the motorized infantry battalion of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade "Kholodny Yar". "My father was a courageous, exceptionally persistent, strong-willed, purposeful person. A man of honor and dignity. He always fought for justice. When he set a specific goal for himself, he always achieved it, no matter what. He was a role model for my brother and me. Looking at him, we always understood that this is how a strong-willed person should be. His last words that will forever remain in our hearts: 'No matter what happens, always stick together, be friendly. And then you will overcome any difficulties,'" said Olena Khomova. On July 10, 2024, the defender was buried in the Alley of Honorary Burials of Combatants at the city cemetery in his hometown. The hero left behind a wife, daughter and son.
