Serhii I. Holubchenko (Holub)

Junior Sergeant Serhii Holubchenko (call sign Holub) was killed on March 1, 2024, during combat operations in the area of the village of Berdychi, Donetsk region. As a result of enemy artillery shelling, he received fatal injuries. A month earlier, on February 3, the defender turned 32 years old. Serhii was born and lived in Okhtyrka, Sumy region. He graduated from the Okhtyrka Vocational Education Center with a specialization in "Construction and Civil Engineering". He worked abroad, was the chief driver at a factory. He loved fishing, hunting, and everything related to nature. He adored traveling and spending time with friends. He was a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). During the full-scale war, Serhii defended his country first in the ranks of the Territorial Defense Forces, and later in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura". He was a squad commander. "Our hero has been defending our country since 2014, during the ATO, in the hottest spots of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, for which he received combat awards 'Participant of the ATO' and 'Defender of the Fatherland'. Serhii lived abroad for a long time, but in the first days of the full-scale invasion, he went to his homeland, did not stand aside, joined the territorial defense and repelled the invaders from his hometown of Okhtyrka. Serhii's path continued in the 211th battalion. Those who knew him say that people like him are extremely rare. He defended the Bakhmut direction in the most difficult period, the last battles were already in the 'Magura' battalion. He defended the Avdiivka direction, but the war took him! I am proud of my brother, a Person with a capital letter. Serhii gave everything for us, for a free Ukraine and peace, he gave his life, having so many plans and unfulfilled dreams. He came from a peaceful country at the call of the Motherland and gave his life. This is the bravest thing a person can do! My brother is the same Hero of our time! Glory forever!" - said the sister of the fallen Kristina. The warrior was buried in the Alley of Glory of the cemetery in his native Okhtyrka. Serhii is survived by his parents and sister.
