- Born on July 24, 1979, in the city of Bilopillia, Sumy region. In 1996, he graduated from secondary school No. 2 in Bilopillia. Since 1996, he has been in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2000, he graduated from the Military Institute of Artillery named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky at Sumy State University (city of Sumy). Since 2000, he served in the 30th Separate Guards Mechanized Novograd-Volynskyi Rivne Red Banner and Suvorov Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0409, city of Novograd-Volynskyi, Zhytomyr region). Since the summer of 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On August 13, 2014, Major Hordiienko was killed during a breakthrough from encirclement near the village of Stepaniivka in the Shakhtarsk district of Donetsk region during the battles for the Savur-Mohyla height. Along with him, Major Lisovskyi, Captain Obukhivskyi, Senior Sergeant Hordiichuk, Private Damanovskyi, and another serviceman, whose identity has not yet been established, were killed. On September 8, 2014, he was buried in the Central Cemetery of Bilopillia. In September 2015, a memorial plaque was unveiled in Bilopillia on the facade of secondary school No. 2 (Soborna Street, 84), where Serhii Hordiienko studied. On August 16, 2016, during the 5th session of the Bilopillia District Council, a decision was made to name secondary school No. 2 in Bilopillia after Hordiienko S.M. starting from September 1, 2016.Book of Remembrance for Ukraine - Ukrainian memorial
