- Soldier Serhii Cherhyk was killed on February 17, 2023 near the village of Kuzmyne in the Luhansk region. While performing his official duties, he came under enemy artillery fire and received a fatal shrapnel wound to the head. The defender was 41 years old. Serhii was born and lived in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region. He received secondary education at a local school. For some time he worked as a tractor driver. In 1999-2000 he served in the army, after which he got married. In 2002, he started working at the Pavlohradska mine, loading coal with a bulldozer. Since 2003, he has been working at the Heroes of Cosmos mine, and in recent years he has been a miner. In his free time, he loved to play billiards. He was fascinated by technology and could completely disassemble and assemble a car. During the full-scale war, on March 10, 2022, the man received a summons and went to the military enlistment office. Later, he joined the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine to defend his country from the occupiers. At first, he was on guard duty. From July, he served in the 2nd Special Purpose Battalion "Donbas", holding the position of senior driver of the 1st automotive unit. "Dad was responsible. When someone asked him for something, he always helped anyone. In the memory of friends and loved ones, he remained kind, sincere, positive, and always smiling. He loved his work, was loyal to his family. He loved life and music, and listened to it wherever he was," said Polina Cherhyk. The National Guard soldier was buried in his hometown. At home, Serhii was awaited by his mother, brother, wife, and daughter. He was posthumously awarded the city's honorary badge "For Merits to the Community".Memory Platform 'Memorial'
