Serhii S. Asieikin (Babai)

Senior soldier Serhii Asieiekin (call sign Babai) was killed on February 6, 2023 in battle in the area of the village of Zaliznianske in the Donetsk region. He received a fatal shrapnel wound to the neck during an enemy mortar attack. He would have turned 50 years old in April. Serhii was born in Vatutine, Cherkasy region. He graduated from school and a vocational school. He worked as a maintenance technician at a factory in Vodianyk, Cherkasy region. He was a jack-of-all-trades, and could repair anything. He was a biker. He loved his Homeland above all else. He was a participant in the Revolution of Dignity. He volunteered and went to the front lines more than once. With the start of the full-scale war, he voluntarily took up arms and stood to defend Ukraine. He served in the 30th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi. He held the position of senior gunner in the machine gun platoon of the rifle battalion. He received his call sign because he loved to tell jokes, was very cheerful, and could find an approach to everyone. After the jokes about Babai, his comrades-in-arms began to call him that. "Dad was a wonderful person. All his comrades-in-arms mourn him, they say that such a comrade as Babai no longer exists. We all miss him very much. He remained a part of each of our hearts," said his daughter Anastasiia. She has taken on her father's initiative and is engaged in volunteering. The military man was buried in cemetery No. 3 in his hometown. Serhii left behind a wife, three daughters and two grandchildren. Serhii Asieiekin was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
