- Sergeant Serhiy Savchuk (call sign Fellini) was killed on April 7, 2022, in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region. During the defense of the city, he sustained injuries incompatible with life. The defender was 28 years old. Serhiy was born in the village of Yavorivka in the Vinnytsia region. He graduated from Vinnytsia Agrarian University with a degree in "Management." However, this profession did not prove useful. He worked in security, trade, and forestry. He was into sports. He loved animals, especially large breed dogs. He was kind, sincere, reliable, and positive. He had a good sense of humor. He dreamed of having his own big house and family. In 2019, he signed a contract with the National Guard of Ukraine. He held the position of instructor in the second platoon of the training company of the personnel training battalion. From the first days of the full-scale invasion, he defended Mariupol. "My son consciously made the decision to become a defender. Although I tried to dissuade him. But he said, 'I have chosen my path. You will not stop me. Anything can happen to me in peaceful life. This is my road.' He never spoke about his service or comrades. He always said that work is just work, everything is fine. He was more worried about his father, who was called up from the first days of the full-scale invasion. He tried to support and calm me. On March 30, 2022, I felt some anxiety in his conversation. It was as if he was saying goodbye. I told him that they were strong and that everything would be fine. My son replied, 'I love you, take care of yourselves.' There was no further communication with him. And he told his comrades, 'Dying is not scary, what's scary is dying in captivity.' Serhiy was killed at the Illich factory," said his mother, Halyna Savchuk. "Our son grew up honest from a young age; he couldn't lie. His eyes gave him away. He had many friends and knew how to be a friend. For some reason, he always gravitated towards older boys. He loved his younger brother, who is ten years younger than him. I see my son in dreams. He jokes the same way, asking me not to worry and not to cry." The defender is survived by his parents and younger brother. Posthumously, Sergeant Serhiy Savchuk was awarded the Order of Courage III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
