Biography
Sergiy Viktorovych Vasich was born on April 30, 1971, in Batumi (Georgia) into a military family. He traveled the world with his parents to military garrisons, so the army was like a second home to him. His father was an officer who served in the tank troops. From childhood, Sergiy loved military technology, especially tanks. At the age of 12, his father put him behind the wheel of a GAZ-66 vehicle. He learned to drive it back and forth on a ramp, which helped him better master tank driving. In high school, Sergiy Vasich studied well and later received a technical education. He was a well-rounded person, always reading a lot and constantly improving his knowledge. After moving to Hrytsiv in the Khmelnytskyi region, he worked at the Hrytsiv post office. Since 2015, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From 2018, he was a tank commander in the tank battalion of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. He bravely defended Ukrainian positions in the Kyiv region. On March 8, 2022, three tank crews of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade participated in the battle for the liberation of the village of Makaryv in the Kyiv region from Russian occupiers. From the first shot, the tank crew under the command of Sergiy Vasich managed to destroy the lead vehicle, while the other two tanks provided fire support. One after another, enemy vehicles burst into flames from accurate shots. The infantry began to scatter, and later the Russian soldiers discovered the positions of our tankers and called in artillery. Maneuvering, our tank crews destroyed the enemy. Sergeant Vasich's tank flanked the enemy and began firing high-explosive fragmentation shells, driving the infantry out. Together, the three Ukrainian tank crews destroyed 6 units of enemy equipment and a significant number of enemy personnel in the battle. Thus, the enemy was pushed back, and during the counteroffensive, Ukrainian forces liberated the village of Makaryv in the Kyiv region from the occupiers. However, an enemy anti-tank guided missile hit the Ukrainian T-64BV tank: the ammunition detonated, and the turret was torn off, resulting in the entire tank crew dying in battle. He was buried in Hrytsiv in the Khmelnytskyi region, where he lived.Burial place
