- Soldier Vadim Khlivchuk (call sign Odyssey) was killed in action during a tank shelling on August 1, 2022, near the village of Virnopillya, Kharkiv region. The warrior was 47 years old. Vadim was born in the village of Velykyi Dalnyk in the Odessa region. He was a believer. In peaceful life, he worked as a plumber. Vadim began his warrior path back in 2014. He went to defend Ukraine as part of the 8th separate volunteer battalion "Aratta", was a scout, fought on the Donetsk direction. Concussions and injuries did not stop the fighter, and he always, having slightly recovered, returned to the forefront. During the full-scale war, he served in the 49th separate rifle battalion "Carpathian Sich" named after Oleg Kutin, held the position of scout-machine gunner and commander of the department. "He always stood up for the Ukrainian. He taught the fighters that we must feel that we are a nation, that the Russians should not have any influence on us, because they impose their culture on us in order to eradicate ours," wrote his niece Olga. "I met Odyssey in 2015. We were together fighters of the 8th separate battalion. Together we performed combat missions and took part in hostilities in Shyrokyne near Mariupol. The pseudonym Odyssey really suits him. He seemed to have come to us from ancient Greece, from a myth. He always stood out for his activity and initiative. He was always ahead, sometimes it seemed that he was simply going like a battering ram, as if he had no fear... He always cared about his friends. Everyone spoke well of him. In our hundred, he was one of those pillars that everyone relied on. He worked with both a machine gun and a PKM, and with "Utios". They made handles for him on "Utios", and he wore it like a backpack. Vadim always took care of his physical form. We had a warm-up in the battalion when there were no hostilities. Odyssey didn't just go for a warm-up, he took a bulletproof vest and ran several kilometers in it. That's how he physically hardened himself for endurance," shared his comrade-in-arms Lev. "He believed in what he was doing, knew what he was doing, was always ahead of everyone. It was not scary to go into battle with him. Such people can only be met at war," added comrade-in-arms Demon. "He was very well-read, intelligent, and often discussed with comrades. In one village in the combat zone, while there was a whole library, he took books on the history of Ukraine and Ukrainian literature, and after reading them, he returned them. It felt like he was a leader, a real commander with an inner strength that attracted," said another comrade-in-arms. Vadim was buried in his native village. The defender left behind his mother, sister, and nephews. For the courage and steadfastness of the warrior, he was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree. In September 2022, in Vadim Khlivchuk's native village, Teraspilska Street was renamed in his honor.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
