Vadym S. Surkov

Morpikh Vadym Surkov was killed on July 16, 2024 near Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region. While returning from his position, he sustained fatal injuries during enemy mortar shelling. The warrior was 47 years old. Vadym was born and raised in the city of Torez (now Chistyakovo) in the Donetsk region. The family, like most in the mining town, was connected to this industry. He studied at school, was passionate about football and boxing. After school, he enrolled in a technical school in his hometown, and obtained the qualification of an electric locomotive driver. However, he could not find a job in his specialty. Therefore, he went to work where there was work: as a miner. Later, he met a girl, got married, and the couple had a daughter. In 2000, the family moved to Kyiv. In the capital, the man worked as an expeditor at "MegaMaxi", a logistician in warehouses, at the "Delivery" warehouse, and over time he became a warehouse manager. In 2017, he joined "Nova Poshta". He liked the company, its technology, the attitude towards people, and the team. Above all, besides family and life, Vadym loved the sea. Traveling was his main passion. He adored skiing. He spent a lot of time with his family, loved to walk around the city with his loved ones. Vadym received a summons on his birthday, February 9, 2023. He served in the ranks of the 36th separate marine brigade. He was an operator of the anti-tank section of the fire support platoon. After training, he was sent to the village of Urozhaine on the border of the Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions. Later, he participated in the legendary operation in Krynky - he was one of the first to storm the left bank of the Kherson region. There, in battle, he was seriously wounded, was in treatment and rehabilitation for a long time, and then returned to his brigade. He then took part in battles in the Kherson region. When the offensive on the Kharkiv region began in May 2024, the brigade was transferred to that direction. According to his relatives, the man dreamed of returning from the war, buying an apartment. The family lost their home due to the occupation of their hometown. In a rented, foreign home, there was no sense of a native home. He wanted to return to "Nova Poshta". Vadym was offered to sign a contract, to become a professional soldier - the commanders noted his talent for this business, he was a skilled fighter and had good prospects for service. But he wanted to return to peaceful life. The defender was buried in Kyiv. Vadym is survived by his relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
