Vasyl S. Babych

Commander of the reconnaissance company Vasily Babich was killed on August 30, 2022, in a battle for the Kherson region. The officer was 26 years old. Vasily was born in the city of Mukachevo in Transcarpathia. He graduated from the Odessa Military Academy. After graduation, he went to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the time of the full-scale invasion, Vasily commanded a company in the 128th separate mountain assault Zakarpattia brigade. Initially, his unit successfully defended the Zaporizhzhia region, and later moved to the southern regions. "Young, fearless, life-loving, proud, like every real scout. The elite of the army. Just three weeks ago, we handed over a jeep to him in southern Ukraine and took a symbolic promise that after the war he would return the car whole and healthy... What are you doing, Vasily... 26 years old... Remember that the offensive in the Kherson region is not about watermelons, but about the lives of our Heroes...", wrote writer Andriy Liubka. "He was a real officer and a person with a capital letter. We met not so long ago, but during this short time of communication, he earned my great respect. He always went into battle with his soldiers, never refused, although as a commander he had such an opportunity. I can talk a lot about this person, very good, but I will say briefly and I think you will understand. I can say boldly: this is an officer who had and has honor", wrote comrade Vasily. The military man left behind his parents and his beloved girlfriend.
