Volodymyr H. Haletskyi (Varshava)

Combat medic Volodymyr Haletskyi (call sign Warsaw) was killed on September 13, 2022 during the liberation of the Kharkiv region from the occupiers. Near the city of Kupiansk, the soldier received a fatal injury as a result of enemy shelling from "Grads". He was killed instantly. He would have turned 25 in October. Volodymyr was born in the city of Berdychiv, Zhytomyr region. He studied to be a physiotherapist. At the time of the start of the full-scale war, he was finishing his studies at the University of Warsaw. He had his own practice. In peaceful life, he was engaged in martial arts, played chess masterfully, and wrote poems. He also traveled, wrote songs and music. In his free time, he sparred with his comrades-in-arms. During the invasion, Volodymyr served in the assault company of the special unit "Kraken". Together with his comrades-in-arms, he took part in the battles for the Kharkiv region. "Vova was a unique person. A very deep, modest and good friend. He could have continued studying in Warsaw, but he made the decision to defend Ukraine. According to him, these were the happiest moments in his life," said the deceased's friend Yulia. "You are only 24... Behind you are years of studying abroad and the opportunity to stay there. You successfully obtained the medical profession, and therefore, most likely, a solid status and a generally comfortable life awaited you there. Without war, without the risk of being hit by missiles every second. What will you choose?.. Volodymyr Haletskyi chose... He went as a volunteer to defend the country where he was born and raised, went to defend his family, his native Berdychiv, his fellow countrymen. It turns out that he saw his life only here, in the Motherland. He wanted everything that those who choose abroad to come true here: for it to be peaceful, for people to have the opportunity to live in prosperity. For this, he went to fight the enemy... Ahead was supposed to be a whole life - interesting, eventful, in which he would fulfill a noble mission - to heal people. Ahead will be eternal memory and human honor, and a prominent place in the cohort of the Heavenly Defenders of Ukraine," the Berdychiv community noted. Volodymyr was buried in his native Berdychiv. He is survived by his parents, younger brother, fiancée, friends and comrades-in-arms.
