- Soldier Yevhenii Chornyi (call sign Pasternak) was killed in action on March 4, 2022, in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region. He was wounded during a combat mission, injuries were incompatible with life. The warrior was 21 years old. Yevhenii was born in the city of Dniprodzerzhynsk (now the city of Kamianske) in the Dnipropetrovsk region. There, he completed 9 grades of school and enrolled in the Kamianske Energy Vocational College. After graduation, he entered the National Technical University "Dnipro Polytechnic." He wanted to become an energy engineer. Yevhenii went parachuting, climbed Hoverla, and dreamed of seeing the world. He adored poetry and participated multiple times in literary events in the city. Since childhood, he engaged in cycling and absolutely loved it. He participated in competitions, won awards, and received prizes. Together with other enthusiasts of this sport, he organized a cycling group in Kamianske. He arranged competitions and created cycling routes. "Bicycles were his wings," says the boy's mother, Inna Chorna. Yevhenii had two bicycles. Before leaving for service, he gave them to his friends. However, after completing basic training, he realized he could not live without his beloved hobby. Therefore, his family sent his bicycle to the military unit in Mariupol. Yevhenii was very happy when he had the opportunity to ride around the city during breaks from service. After finishing his second year, he decided to join "Azov." In June 2021, he withdrew his documents from the university and in August traveled to Kyiv for training. The young man was satisfied with his choice and shared photos with his parents. His mother was glad that her son found something he liked. After completing two weeks of training, in September 2021, the young man went to Mariupol. There, he underwent basic training and ranked third in terms of performance. He became an assistant grenade launcher. During the distribution, he could choose his next place of service. Yevhenii decided to stay in Mariupol because he really liked the city and the guys he befriended. That was where he encountered the full-scale invasion. For two weeks, Yevhenii called his mother whenever possible, telling her about the difficult situation in Mariupol, advising her to be prepared for anything, and to pack a "go bag." The last time his mother spoke to her son was on March 4. Due to poor connection, the conversation was short. After that — silence lasting 1.5 months. His mother prayed for everything to be alright. Unfortunately, the patronage service of "Azov" informed the family by phone that Yevhenii had . "My son was very kind, gentle, and tender. He never hurt anyone. The first and very desired child," recalls the mother of the defender. The family has still not been able to bury the defender. The warrior is survived by his mother, father, and younger brother. Posthumously, Yevhenii Chornyi was awarded the Order of "For Courage" III degree. At the college where he stu, a memorial plaque with photographs and names of fallen graduates was established.
