Yurii S. Kubai (Kuba)

Senior soldier Yuriy Kubay (call sign Kuba) was killed on June 10, 2022, while performing a combat task near the village of Komyshuvakha in Luhansk region. The defender received a fatal explosive injury during an enemy artillery shelling. He was 37 years old. Yuriy was born in the village of Babin, Rivne region. He stuwas killed at the Babin school. Later, he mastered the profession of a gas equipment repair and maintenance locksmith. He had his favorite job in construction, where he was engaged in facade decoration. He created a family, had many plans for life. He was fond of fishing. Since 2015, he has been participating in the ATO. During the full-scale Russian invasion, Yuriy defended Ukraine as part of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He held the position of a reconnaissance sniper. He took part in the defense of Donbas from the occupants. I will remember that morning until the end of my days when I was told that Yuriy was no longer there. How I called in hope to hear my native voice... And then my earth went from under my feet, the world stopped, everything around me froze... And the thought: how to tell my relatives about it? Yura was kind, cheerful, sincere. A master of all trades. He had many friends, always rushed to help others. He could cheer up and lift the mood. He loved his job very much, with great pleasure he told about the work done by his brigade. The war knocked on my brother's door twice. In 2015, he defended the country in Luhansk region. He returned home with a concussion, but alive... In the spring of 2022, he again received a summons from the military commissariat. He very much wanted to avenge the occupants for the evil they brought with them. Now he is our Guardian Angel, our Hero, who protects from heaven... It's hard to believe... Unbearable pain... Pain that remains for life. A wound from which the heart breaks into billions of pieces... And no words, supposedly, will pass and heal, do not help. This wound is forever... This pain is so strong that the mind does not want to accept reality... And you wake up every morning with the hope that today he will call and you will hear your native voice... The warrior was buried in his native village. At home, Yuriy's mother Olga, father Sergei, sister Katerina, wife Irina, and son Dmytro were waiting for him. In August 2022, Yuriy Kubay was posthumously awarded the distinction "Honorary Citizen of the City of Rivne". A memorial plaque in his honor was installed on the territory of the Babin Lyceum.
