Biography
Nina Stepanivna Sukhenko, mother: "Maxim was born on November 28, 1981, in Kyiv. He was the third child in a family of civil servants. His father — Sukhenko Volodymyr Danilovych, a physicist by profession, and his mother — Sukhenko (Volovchik) Nina Stepanivna, a hydraulic engineer. Maxim was the only brother to his three sisters: older Maria and Olena, and younger Nadiya. He started the 1st grade in 1987. In 1998, he graduated from secondary school No. 138 in Kyiv. His sisters also attended the same school. Under the influence of his class teacher — a chemistry teacher, after finishing school, he entered the chemistry faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 2002, he transferred to the faculty of computer science and computer engineering at KPI. He did not graduate. In 2000, he began his work activity as a technician at the Informatics Center of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine. Subsequently, he held positions as a software engineer, deputy executive director for computer systems, and head of the technical support service in various structures. In 2003, he got married. The family had two daughters: Sukhenko Maria (June 16, 2004) and Sukhenko Olena (June 2, 2006). From childhood, he loved to disassemble toys and attended an aircraft construction club. Later, in a more mature age, his hobby grew into airsoft, which he dedicated the last 10 years of his life to. He received the title of "Airsoft Player of the Year." From February to June 2014, together with his sister Maria, he was involved in the development and sewing of military ammunition. He developed individual vest pouches, which are currently very popular among military personnel in the ATO zone. After Maxim's death, Maria continued their joint business and later named the created brand of military clothing and ammunition in honor of her brother "Max SV." In June 2014, he was at the Desna training ground, where he underwent military training. Maxim appealed to the battalions "Donbas," "Azov," and others, asking to take him as a volunteer, but he was not accepted, citing that he had not served in the army. He was very offended and said that he could shoot well. On July 7, 2014, he was accepted as a volunteer in the "Peacekeeper" battalion, where Maxim held the position of a machine gunner. The "Peacekeeper" battalion participated in battles near Dzerzhynsk, Sloviansk, and at the Ilovaisk depot. During the exit from Ilovaisk through the so-called green corridor on August 29, 2014, he was wounded in both legs near the village of Horbatyenkо. His comrades carried the wounded Maxim into an old abandoned house and left him alone, as the fighting continued. After 15 minutes, when his friend entered the building, he saw that Maxim was holding a grenade in his hands. He said he thought the Russians had already come and wanted to blow up the grenade. After that, he was moved to a house where all the wounded soldiers were. He was very pale, and Maxim Yunker approached him and wanted to take the machine gun, thinking he was already dead. Maxim opened his eyes and asked to be pulled to the window — he would shoot. He did not let go of the weapon until the last moment of his life. A few minutes later, he died from significant blood loss, as the bullet had passed through the femoral artery." As his wife Svitlana recalls, Maxim always consulted with her on everything, except for one decision — regarding joining the ranks of the "Peacekeeper." As part of the rapid response unit, junior sergeant of police Sukhenko served as a machine gunner and established himself as a skilled, resilient fighter. Together with his comrade, police sergeant Dmytro Nazarenko, they did a lot to improve the battalion's equipment and enhance its training. Later, they participated together in combat operations in Sloviansk and Dzerzhynsk, holding the defense of the railway depot in Ilovaisk for several days. Hosha Tykhyi: "This is what the Ukrainian flag means to me. I took this photo on August 23, on Flag Day, a year ago. Cossack Mamai on it — a fighter of the "Peacekeeper" battalion, Maxim Sukhenko. He is sitting in the back of a KAMAZ before heading out to carry out a combat mission in Ilovaisk. On August 29, after 6 days of street fighting in the surrounded city, during the breakthrough from the cauldron, Maxim was killed. Eternal memory and glory to the hero!"Military service
