Bohdan V. Vovnenko (Varh)
28 August 1975 – 29 August 2014Kyiv – Donetsk region

Order "For Courage" 3rd Class

Biography
In 1992–1994, he studied at the Faculty of Computer Science and Computer Engineering of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. He worked at various private enterprises in the capital (as a system administrator, manager), while since 2005 he had been managing his own internet project selling motorcycle parts. He was passionate about rock music, actively participating in informal movements of Kyiv motorcyclists and supporters of socionics (a modern science studying the process of information exchange between a person and the outside world). At the same time, he ran an authorial culinary internet site "Shmakota!" (the last recipe on it — the cocktail "Glory to Ukraine!" — was published by his wife Alla after his death). He actively participated in the Revolution of Dignity. At the same time, he expressed his patriotic position on social networks. After Russia's annexation of Crimea, Bohdan signed a contract to serve in the military reserve of the National Guard of Ukraine and was assigned to the special forces battalion of the National Guard "Donbas" (he took the call sign of one of his internet nicknames — Varg). While in the ATO area, he wrote in one of the social networks: "You know, before the events of 21.11.2013, I was planning to leave the swamp that Ukraine was turning into. There were two options: Romania or Greece. After 30.11.2013, I thought only about revenge against the Kyiv 'Berkut'. After 10–11.12, I wanted to defend my rights and those of my Ukrainian brothers. After 18–20.02.2014, I will not go anywhere from here. My land is here. And I will build a better life here, on my land. Ukrainians! I am proud to belong to such a freedom-loving nation. This is my land. And I will live here, my children, my grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. When we were in Lysychansk, people from the 'Volunteer Hundred' visited us. Among other things, they brought us letters from Kharkiv. You know, such small pieces of paper with wishes. So, the value of these letters… Let's say this: no one in our unit could read them calmly, tears welled up in the eyes of even the most brutal soldiers. Thank you on behalf of our unit to those who wrote these letters and to those who delivered them…". Bohdan's wife Alla was engaged in volunteer activities; she is the founder of the internet site "Help the Army".Military service
