- Sergeant Konstantin Istratov (call sign Granit) was killed in the night of July 29, 2022 as a result of a terrorist attack in the Olenivka colony in the Donetsk region. The warrior was 34 years old. Konstantin was a native of the village of Brylyvka, Kherson region. When he was 13 years old, his father tragically was killed. So the boy only received a secondary education, as he immediately went to work in construction. There was no money or time for study, as he had to help his family. In his free time, he loved to read and paid a lot of attention to sports, especially enjoying gymnastics on the bars. In 2015, the man took up the defense of Ukraine and participated in the Russian-Ukrainian war. He served in the separate special purpose detachment of the NGU "Azov". At the time of the full-scale war, he held the position of machine gunner in the machine gun section of the fire support platoon. From February 24, 2022, together with his comrades-in-arms, he defended the city of Mariupol and the Azovstal plant. After fierce battles in the spring, their unit found itself in Russian captivity after an order from the higher command. And in the night of July 29, the occupiers killed many Ukrainian soldiers, arranging a terrorist attack in colony No. 120 in the settlement of Olenivka. For his worthy service, Konstantin Istratov was awarded the Order of Courage of the III and II degrees. The second one was posthumous. "A brave hero, a very good and fair person. When he came on vacation, I asked him: "Why did you decide that you should defend the country, not having military experience?", and he replied: "So that you and your children live in a free country and be free people." His commander said that Kostya mastered many professions in the military field, and was one of the best!" - said the deceased's sister Irina Krolevetska. After the exchange of bodies and DNA examination, the hero was bid farewell at the Forest Cemetery in Kyiv. Konstantin is survived by his mother, sister and two nephews.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
